The colour of the Mediterranean

Jesús Camargo (Granada, 1949) grew up in Valladolid, where he trained at the School of Arts and Crafts. He first travelled to Mallorca in 1972 and the island ended up winning him over: since 1989 he has lived in Santanyí, with a studio in Cala Figuera, which he alternates with another in Curiel de Duero (Valladolid).

A landscape painter of Mediterranean colour and light, his Mallorcan coves and seascapes coexist with landscapes of Castile and the Maghreb, in an unmistakable palette of blues, turquoises, reds and ochres. Since 2010 his painting has taken an expressionist turn without ever giving up colour.

In a career spanning more than fifty years he has exhibited in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Italy, Portugal and Switzerland, as well as Madrid, Barcelona and Palma — Capella de la Misericòrdia, 2006 —, and has produced commissioned work for the Museum of Contemporary Hispanic Art in San Francisco.
