“Colour, light and Mallorcan popular roots”

Consuelo Torres Canet (Algaida, Mallorca, 1955) is a Mallorcan painter and sculptor with a long career, trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Palma and, between 1985 and 1993, at the renowned school of the painter Joaquín Torrents Lladó. She completed her training with sculpture studies at the workshop of Maria Isabel Ballester and also holds a degree in teaching.

Her work stands out for its great variety: from Mallorcan genre painting and folklore to landscape, still life, flowers, the nude and portraiture. She works equally in oil, acrylic, watercolour and mixed media, and is also the author of a series of figurative sculptures, among which the “dimonis” of Sant Antoni, the Cavallets of Felanitx and other characters of the island’s popular festivities stand out.

Her painting is recognised for its chromatic richness, its delicacy and the luminosity radiating from compositions built on the contrast of warm and cool tones. She has exhibited, both solo and in group shows, in Palma, Santanyí, Sóller, Felanitx, Valldemossa and Algaida, as well as in Madrid, Vitoria and Seville.
